Before Winnie became the inspiration behind our business, she was a rescue dog simply looking for a second chance.
From rescue to family.
Winnie became the inspiration behind everything we do.
When our family decided to look for a second dog to be a companion for our dog Hokalani, we started where we always believe people should look first — the rescue system. We visited the Oregon Humane Society hoping to give a dog in need a real second chance.
That’s when we met Winnie.
At the time, Winnie had gone through an incredibly difficult life. She had been severely neglected, malnourished, and emotionally shut down after living in a car with a previous owner. After the owner was arrested, Winnie was discovered locked inside the vehicle without food and in extremely poor condition. Deputies eventually rescued her and brought her to the Humane Society where she began recovering physically, but emotionally she was still unsure of people and the world around her.
Before we met her, Winnie had already experienced failed rehoming attempts and struggled to find a permanent family. Because of her breed and her condition, we knew she could eventually face an uncertain future if the right family never came along.
When we first saw her photo, we immediately fell in love.
During our first meet-and-greet, Winnie was timid, reserved, and clearly carried trust issues from past trauma. But despite everything she had been through, there was still something incredibly special about her. Our family knew right away she belonged with us.
Bringing Winnie home changed everything.
Over time, she slowly learned how to trust again. She went from being fearful, underweight, and low-energy to becoming playful, loving, confident, and full of personality. For the first time in her life, she had her own bed, a safe home, a family, and another dog by her side that became inseparable from her. Today, Winnie and Hokalani do everything together like true sisters.
Now, almost a year later, Winnie has become the heart of our family and the inspiration behind our business.
We created Winnie’s Scoop Service not only because we love animals, but because Winnie reminds us every day what compassion, patience, dependability, and second chances can do. We want our company to reflect those same values through honest communication, reliable service, professional care, and genuine compassion for both pets and their owners.
Winnie’s story is proof that sometimes the “underdog” simply needs someone willing to believe in them.
And we’re grateful every day that we did.
